David Harrison

Director, Action Sports Academy

Coaches Quote

“The goal is to use the professional experience of our staff has acquired throughout years of NBA, FIBA, and high major Division I collegiate involvement, to thrust athletes of all ages and skill levels to their maximum potential.”

As the Director of Action Sports Academy, David is passionate about helping post-grad athletes achieve their full athletic and academic potential by securing collegiate scholarships and pursuing higher education.

David grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where he ate, drank, and slept basketball. Cut by his middle school basketball team and only playing one year for his high school, his chances to play collegiate basketball seemed slim. But David had big dreams of playing DI basketball and going pro, so he took matters into his own hands. Never losing sight of his goal, David put together his own film, and started contacting colleges. He never gave up, and turned his childhood passion into a reality.

David began his college basketball career in 1994 at Sullivan Community College in Louisville, KY, where he redshirted his freshman year. In 1995, he transferred to Morehead State University, a DI school. After playing two seasons at Morehead, he began playing for Campbellsville University where he earned First Team NAIA All-American Honors (1999). David led the Campbellsville Tigers by scoring 1,041 points in the two seasons while averaging 29.8 points per game. His most notable college achievement was scoring a career high of 60 points and 25 rebounds in a single game. David later returned to Campbellsville University in 2012 and graduated with a Bachelors of Science (BS) in Organizational Management.

In 1999, David entered in the NBA Draft and began a 13-year professional basketball career where he played in the United States, Europe, Asia, Middle East, and South America. During his career, he played in over 700 games and lived in more than 25 countries. He led the Yakima Sun Kings, (Yakima, WA) to win the 2000 Continental Basketball Association (CBA) Championship. In 2003, while playing for the Rockford Lightning (Rockford, IL), David was named CBA’s Leading Scorer by averaging 28.8 points per game. In 2009, he led Icevic to win the Honduras Basketball League (HBL) Championship where he was named HBL’s Leading Scorer by averaging 34.6 points per game. David received First Team Honors while playing for the Colombia Copa Federation where he averaged 27.2 points per game. He retired from his professional career in 2012.

David’s coaching career started in 2013, were he became the Assistant Coach at Bristol Community College in Falls River, MA. During his tenure at Bristol (2013-2014), his team had the best record in the school’s history. More importantly, 3 out of 7 female players were selected to play in the Regional All-Star Tournament. Following his successful career at Bristol, David became the Graduate Assistant Coach at his first DI school, Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) during the 2014- 2015 season. Under David’s leadership, EKU beat 17th ranked University of Miami while winning 22 games during the season.

David was sought after in 2015 to become the Head Coach for Action Sports Academy. At the rise of his career, 12-out-of-12 post-grad players received a basketball scholarship. He has coached ASA players through several winning seasons. David is dedicated and committed to seeing each player succeed—in sports and in life. His goal for each player at Action Sports Academy is to provide the necessary training and development that encourages players to continue to hold on to and chase after their dreams.

Gordon Gibbons

Assistant Coach, Basketball

Basketball Hall Of Famer and coaching legend Gordon Gibbons serves as an Assistant Coach for the basketball program at Action Sports Academy. With more than 20 years of coaching experience, Gibbons, known around here as Coach G, holds the record for the most wins as a NCAA Division II coach.

Before joining Action Sports Academy, Gibbons was the Head Coach at Clayton State University in Morrow, GA for 12 years. In addition to spearheading the program's first two appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament, Gibbons compiled an immaculate 221-134 (.620) overall record while notching 11 straight winning seasons from 2001-02 through 2011-12. To contrast, in the first 11 seasons of Clayton State basketball there were only four winning seasons. Additionally, during his 11-season winning stretch, Gibbons’ teams produced the second most wins in the Peach Belt Conference.

During his 12 years at the helm of the Clayton State Lakers, he took the team to the PBC Tournament every single year and reached the semifinals for half of those appearances, including two berths in the title game. The 2007-08 season would see the first tournament title in the program's history, and 2001-02 would be the first PBC Regular Season Championship behind a 19-9 overall record in his first season.

Prior to coaching at Clayton State, Gibbons coached at Florida Southern from 1990 to 2000 where he was a three-time Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year. He compiled a 246-65 mark in 10 years with the program, averaging 25 victories per season. Gibbons is the winningest coach at Florida Southern and reached 300 victories quicker than any coach in NCAA Division II history. Under Gibbons, the Mocs reached the Final Four and also appeared in the Elite Eight tournament twice. They made one other trip to the Sweet Sixteen.

At Action Sports Academy, Gibbons works hard to ensure his athletes are excelling both on and off the court. His goal is to develop our athletes’ IQ and to provide them with a collegiate basketball experience while they’re here at Action Sports Academy, so that when they’re given an opportunity at the college level, they are capable, prepared, and ready to succeed.

Coach Sean Davy has spent the last five years dedicating his craft to be the best basketball skills development coach as well as strength and conditioning coach. Studying under Phillip Harper, (Hoop Nation Media), Mark Williams, (Team Footprintz), Gordon Gibbons, (DII Hall of Fame Coach), Mark Edwards (Monstar Training), and Allan Bordley (Track and Field Grass Roots Coach). Under these individuals, Coach Sean, was able to create his own unique style of training and coaching. Having the ability to understand the game of basketball, how players must be coached to perform at a high level, and the work that must be put in on their skills, he plans his workouts to make sure it compliments the demands of that player's sport to a tee.

His knowledge stems from his background in human physiology with his Exercise Science Degree, which he earned in the summer of 2021, and also his certification in personal training. His undergrad allowed him to be more than just a trainer, it allowed him to properly understand how the programs he puts together will have a stimulus to the players' bodies and the adaptation that will take place after recovery. Coach Sean's work extended beyond the ASA program he constantly works with athlete's day in and day out with his performance training company (Brick By Brick Performance), and he plans on using this company to help athlete's unlock their potential.

What makes Coach Sean a valuable asset to the program is based upon his character. Being raised by immigrant parents in the inner city of New York, he was shown at a young age how important having character is in terms of respect, integrity, honesty, loyalty, and honor. These qualities coupled with his parent's blue collared lifestyle allows Coach Sean to show young men and young women that, no matter how talented you are in life you have to attain a great work ethic and maintain an amazing character.

Winning her first golf tournament at the age of 10 under the mentorship of her grandfather, Houston learned quickly that there was much more to the game of golf than just playing. She continued her journey into high school, where she was the first girl to try out for the all-boys golf team. Houston’s tenacity and unwillingness to give up helped her team secure a spot in the state championship where she competed against 300 boys.

Houston received multiple scholarship offers to play collegiate golf, including one from Jackson State University which she proudly accepted. In 2003 and 2004, Houston contributed to her team’s Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship titles. Since her collegiate success, she has made it her mission to get youth on the golf course and in position to pursue scholarships or professional endeavors of their own.

Exposing over 500 students to the benefits of the sport through her work with Excel Youth Academy, a primary partner of U.S. Kids Golf and a pipeline for PGA Jr. League, Houston’s passion and drive have led her to cultivate valuable connections and partnerships within the golf industry.
